------------- ACTIVITY REPORTS- JANUARY 01- 31 2015JANUARY 21- 2015 .
Another two magmatic quakes below El Hierro
and most strangely one in only 1 km depth in the South Of Teneriffe on January 20, the most shallow since the first activity phase in 2011:, WHat dies it mean=? I have found no comment of the AVCAN facebook site,
January 20- 2015: The most shallow magmatic quake since the end of the first activity phase/ Fogo update:
I have no proof that the Fogo volcano is also feeded from the El Hierro hotspot The activity at Fogo however is tightly related to the one on the canaries asnd Fogo likely was the valve where the hot magma mixed with waterby whereby the uprising magma could first found its way up to the surface.
Luck for the Canaries as it seems but as the shallow quake just on January 20 in a depth of now JUST 1 KM (below sea surface !)is also an indicator that tha magma there is also nor more far from the surface and and eruptive event cannot be excluded , Especially that the hot magma will anytime mix with water at any point would create the explosive mixture what could lead to a surface eruption of unknown strength .
Expecially the fact that this most shallow magmatic quake since the end of the first activity phase near El Hierro ( that ended early in 2012) an 1. 6 magmatic quake occured just in the south of Teneriffe near to the densely populated Playa de las Americas should be a reason for the Spanish authorities and the IGN at least to publish some kind of statement but more even: to watch the next time evolution very closely now!
I could find no update for the past week about Fogo volcano on the capverde islands: Earthquake. com has a good scientific coverage of the latest activities there.
The Hawaii MODVOLC thermal image taken on 20150121 however shows again the red colorisation after the volcanos heat signature had already had changed to yellow in the 3. part of December :
the MODVOLC Thermal image of the Canaries does not show a sgnificant change one could distinguish with the free eye and remains unchanged now since about one year :
--------------------
JANUARY 15- 2015A serial of earthquakes occured on January 12 2015 on the geological fault line between Teneriffe and Gran Canaria. The quakes occured in depths higher than 30 km and 5 quakes had magnitudes higher than M 2.0. As IGN already remarked earlier, this fault line is known to be active since years and quakes there are rather a result of tectonic movements on a larger scale than directly connected to the activity of the volcanic hotspot below El Hierro. MAGMA INTRUSION AND SUBDUCTION My own opionion is: In general, global hot spot activities are decreasing now at the same time when now- since no further solar SEP has occured within the last two month ( and first time since more than one year) the effects of all previous solar proton storms now seem to come to an end -resp phase III what I call " the final discharge". This phase III is when the earth mantle and the tectonic crust begins to cool down again ( after beeing heated up by the proton storms) , The crust begins to contract and to harden, This and the fact that much magma was globally pressed upwards through the hot spots has also led to a defizit of material in the earth mantle ( with suggested larger hollow spaces thos likely formed out within the crust by those the tectonic plates also sink deeper ) the earth now needs to equalize by more subduction. Thus phase II is the final phase characterized with a final drop of the integral electron flux back to normal values of 1- 10 pfu. ( discharge> neutron and isotope formation...) where more subduction quakes will occure worldwide with the imminent danger of one or two single quakes those might again reach catrastrophic magnitudes of M 9 and higher with the risk of another widespreading Tusnami if these quakes happen subseas. GOES REAL TIME PLOT OF INTEGRAL ELECTRON FLUX: Such a quake will most likely NOT HAPPEN now within the Atlantic ( but- as I believe- rather in the Eastern Pacific) : Subduction is only known to occure at the randoms of the Atlantic as at some parts of the African coast (> see earthquake Agadir 1960) or the Carribean plate (Haiti 2011) Due to less magmatic quakes registered in the last weeks, magma intrusion has further decreased. But that magma needs at leat 3- 6 month to cool down so far, and it would even also perfectly seal the entire space with new and extreme hard hot spot material .However- the latest MODVOLC Image taken on 20150115 shows still heat signatures below the volcanic systems on all volcanic Canary islands and I cant really see a big difference to the images we had in 2014: Nevertheless I believe, that the long period magma intrusion we had on the Canaries as well as on other faults within the Atlantic in 2014 is most likely responsible for these shocks registered on January 12 2015 those might be - according to that- the contraction effect of cooling magma:
here the activities until January 12 as posted by the IGN:
